Recognizing the Efforts of Dr. Samani and Dr. Makriyianni

We are deeply touched to share that our co-founders, Dr. Meltem Onurkan-Samani and Dr. Chara Makriyianni, have been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of their countless efforts to promote a culture of peace — even in the most challenging times.

Their collaboration began immediately after the opening of the crossings in 2003, working together under the umbrella of the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR). They later stood side by side to cut the ribbon at the launch of the Home for Cooperation with the two leaders of the time in 2011.

Through decades of difficulties, they have continued to believe in a shared future for all Cypriots, and in the possibility of a united and peaceful Cyprus.

This award honors not only their personal perseverance, but also the collective hope and work of everyone striving for peaceful co-existence on our island.
